Reading and Writing
Learning to read and write is such an important skill for 1st grade! Here are some of the skills we will work on. Reading: Fountas and Pinnell: We will be using this program for all areas of reading instruction. This includes growing in comprehension through listening to stories, practicing reading words through reading together and working on phonics skills, and reading in small groups to target instruction. We will do similar activities whether we are in person or online. When learning at home, students will get to listen to reading to work on comprehension skills, practice phonics skills to sound out words, and read books at their reading level. I will have links to all of these activities on our google classroom site. Writing: Skills: begin writing complete sentences use descriptive language use appropriate punctuation (?,!,.) use capital letters expressing thoughts in written form through journals recognize story patterns developing characters We will work on writing skills both in class and remotely. For writing assignments, your child may complete them through a link in google classroom or complete it on paper and either return it the next school day or take a picture of it and send it to me. |
